5 New Year’s Resolutions for Online Marketers

2014 is nearly here, and you probably have a list of personal resolutions all ready to go. But what about your business? Now is a great time to consider where you’ve been and figure out the steps you need to reach your goals in the upcoming year. Ready to get started? Here are 5 New Year’s resolutions for online marketers:

  1. Write more blog posts. Your blog can be a top tool for lead generation if you use it to its full potential. If you only post sporadically or push your posting to the back burner when business gets busy, you’re doing your bottom line a disservice. Resolve to write more blog posts that educate, inform and entertain your audience. If you find yourself short on time or inspiration, outsource the writing.

  2. Follow up in a timely manner. Most of us have been guilty of this at one time or another: We get a promising referral and plan to follow up on it later. But later either comes much later or never comes at all because we forget about it. By the time we remember or find the time to catch up, the party we were referred to has lost interest. Even worse, the person who referred us has lost faith in our ability to follow through. Resolve to make following up and following through a priority.

  3. Write effective calls to action and use them. Calls to action help you generate leads and move your audience on from being interested parties to actually buying. Don’t miss a chance to use them. Place them in your emails, blog posts, ads, newsletters, website content and landing page text. Resolve to use every chance you have to tell your audience what you want it to do next.

  4. Optimize for mobile. More and more, consumers are using smartphones and other mobile device to browse the Internet, connect socially, compare potential purchases and buy. Resolve to make your website, blog and all of your content easily accessible and appealing for mobile users.

  5. Use your analytics. Ignoring your analytics is like putting most of a puzzle together but then throwing vital pieces in the trash. Your analytics data isn’t just interesting information to consider when you have time. It’s vital data you can use to monitor your progress and keep track of where you’ve been, what’s working, what’s not and where you’re headed. Resolve to monitor and analyze your analytics, and then use the data to inform your marketing choices.

You have a fresh new year ahead of you. Use it to make the right moves for your business. Add the above resolutions to your list and fill us in on your other plans for this new business year.
