Social media provides excellent opportunities to grow your business network without leaving your office or stepping away from your computer. And one of the best things about social media is its reach. You can build a business network full of people from around the corner from your business to around the world.
Here are some tips you can use to grow your business with social media:
Recognize that you can’t be everywhere all at once.
To avoid spreading yourself too thin, choose the top two or three social media sites that your audience, including your peers, spends time on.Maintain accounts on those sites.
If you later decide there is some benefit to maintaining accounts on other social media networks, consider delegating the responsibility for them to employees or even outsourcing. Your social media presence will only benefit you if you have time to give it due attention.
Socialize. Don’t sell.
One of the fastest ways to lose your audience’s attention on social media is by posting constant commercials for your business.
Instead, use social media to socialize. Join in conversations, become an active participant in groups, ask questions, and provide help and advice whenever you can. Keep your promotion efforts to a bare minimum.
It’s incredibly hard to build a business network if you’re not present to do it. Commit to spending time on your social media accounts at least a few times per week so that people come to recognize you and look forward to your participation. And when you are online? Post, share, and comment. Don’t just click “like” and move on.
Share what you know.
After you’ve attended an event, taken a class, or learned a new skill, go ahead and tweet or post about it. This will attract the attention of people who have an interest in the same things. They’ll comment and ask questions, and before you know it, a conversation will be underway.
Share content your network cares about.
The people you want in your business network are unique, so think about what interests them and grabs their attention. Images and videos are almost always winners, but what else can you post and share? Is your network interested in articles presenting industry news? Would your followers like information about related events? Do funny or inspirational stories move them?
Learn which types of content interests your network the most and provide that.
The above tips will help you get started with building your business network via social media. Remember, you’re building relationships not advertising, so strive to be both interested and interesting.
