Looking to expand your network of followers on Instagram? Having a difficult time getting new people to notice you? Try Instagram shout-outs to get your profile in front of more users and attract new followers.
Here’s how it works:
A shoutout is just a screenshot of your Instagram profile that another user posts to his or her own Instagram account. Then, each time an Instagram user visits that person’s or business’ account, your profile is there for him or her to see. If you have compelling content, that visitor may decide to start following you as well.
Sometimes other Instagram users will give you a shout-out just because they like what you have to offer, but in many cases, users will expect you to do something for them in return.
For example, an Instagram user might ask you to follow him and comment on some of his images. Others may want to trade shout-outs, which means you provide a shout-out for a user and he provides one for you. In either case, it’s important to only seek shout-outs from those with the appropriate audiences. No matter how many followers a user has, if his users aren’t in your target market, a shout-out from him is really just spam.
Keep in mind that it’s also important to choose carefully when it comes to whom to give shoutouts for on your profile. When you give a shout-out, you are, to a certain extent, recommending the company to your followers. If a company turns out to have shoddy products and services or a poor public image, posting a shout-out for that business could hurt your brand’s image. Likewise, it’s best to provide shout-outs only for businesses that offer something you’re sure will interest your followers. Otherwise, they will seem spammy, and you could lose followers as a result.
Don’t forget that it’s not only other businesses that can offer shout-outs for you. Start a giveaway/contest and make the required entry a shout-out for your account. You can choose a winner randomly, based on the number of commenters or by judging which entrant provided the most creative call to action.
Give shout-outs a try to get more exposure for your business and increase your followers. They’re not the only secret to getting more of your target audience to notice you, but they can be a helpful part of your plan.
